Alexis & Sherman Workshop

Alexis and Sherman

Argentine tango workshop

October 6th – 7th 2018

Alexis Weinkauf began her tango career in Bozeman over ten years ago, and since has also become a teacher, organizer, and DJ. She has studied with milongueros throughout the country; her inspirations include but are not limited to Homer and Christiana Ladas, Nick Jones and Diana Cruz, and Vania Rey. She continues her study in Indianapolis with Oscar Casas. Her motto is “If you can walk, you can tango.”

Sherman ‘Sly’ Salangad has intently been studying tango in San Francisco for fifteen years. He pays homage to his long time teachers Chelsea Eng and Christy Cote, his teachers Ney Melo and Jennifer Bratt, and Homer and Christina Ladas. He is a proficient leader and follower in all styles of tango–milonguero, salon, and nuevo, and has fun developing his own ‘style’.

4 Classes and a Milonga

1:00-2:15 Dance moves for crowded spaces — all levels

This class will explore patterns for when you don’t have much room to move. Knowledge of the ‘basic 8′ and the molenete (or giro), as well as close embrace will be helpful for this class.

2:30-3:45 Ready, Set, Boleo — intermediate

Whether you are a beginner at boleos or a pro, this class will help you examine the timing and geometry of ‘with’ and ‘against’ circular boleos, making them smooth and graceful.

9:00pm-1:00am Milonga

1:00-2:15 Sacadas: Original and Diet — intermediate/advanced

There are many ways to categorize sacadas; we will break them down into these: illusion of displacing the trailing leg, and the displacement by making contact.

2:30-3:45 Cadena Cadena! — advanced

The cadena is a very fun complex chain step that we will break down piece by piece so that you, too, can impress on the dance floor.
